Becoming an Industrial Electrician

So, you’ve decided to become an industrial electrician.

We think that’s a smart choice!

And we’re not just saying that. Here’s why:

Now’s the Time to Join the Skilled Trades

As we’ve detailed in a prior blog post, we’re a little stuck as a country. For years and years, we’ve been pushing the importance of obtaining a four-year degree, and in doing so, we’ve forced a lot of kids, who would’ve been better suited for the trades, to rack up debt only to get an unfulfilling career.

As a result, today there are more than 3 million trades jobs available, and as Baby Boomers are retiring, that number is only going to keep growing if we don’t fix the skills gap. These available jobs are highly fulfilling and most-likely lead to financially fruitful futures. The other positive? These jobs aren’t going anywhere. As our world becomes more automated, the need for the trades will only be greater.

Industrial Electrician: Raising the Bar in the Trade

Choosing to become an electrician among the many options available in the trades is a wise choice. While all the trades are valuable and crucial to our world’s success, we favor the electrical trade for a few reasons; higher pay, variety of powerful career paths, and electricians will always be in demand.

That said, among being an electrician, the industrial electrical career path will lead to a more challenging yet rewarding career path than others. It’s a simple idea, really, the bigger the job (factories and plants), the more training is required, and the more fruitful the career.

Apprenticeships and Growth

The idea of an apprenticeship is really genius. Rather than paying for your education, you learn on the job and in a classroom setting, allowing you to earn money as you learn, like ours at Serve Electric. So as many of your counterparts are racking up college debt, an electrical apprentice is earning a steadily increasing income…an income that can support a family, buy a house, or generate savings. In short, it’s a smart way to get ahead on your career and life goals!

The Serve Electric in-house training program is a four-year electrical apprenticeship lead by one of our Master Electricians. At the end of the program, you’ll be prepared to test for your journeyman’s license, and it doesn’t just stop there. It is our goal to see our first-year apprentices grow to be leaders in the company or explore a career path that interests them. For example, we’ve had apprentices grow to be Project Managers and even Branch Managers through the years. We’ve also seen apprentices work hard to obtain a career in PLC Programming. Both routes not only offer great financial success, but also a challenging and rewarding career.

Why Serve Electric

We’re more than just an industrial electrical contractor. While it’s great to perform the day-to-day jobs, we believe in raising the bar higher. We aim to elevate the trade, the industry, and our company every single day. Beyond just looking at the bottom line and serving our customers in every way possible, we believe the foundation to a successful company is serving our team. Whether it’s helping each other when we’re down or finding every way to provide the resources and knowledge for a teammate to grow in his or her career path, we know this is the way to success.

If you want to be an industrial electrician, join a company that believes you’re more than just a number, wants to see you grow and wants to help you succeed.
